Our Roofing Process:

1) Strip off the old material.

Our process always includes this step.  We never put shingles on top of existing shingles. When shingles are installed on top of each other, they trap more heat, which ends up shortening the life of the new shingles. Removing the old shingles extends the life of your new shingles.

2) Installation of ice and water shield Around the perimeter of the roof.

Ice and water shields are an essential part of your roof. The ice and water shield is a waterproof underlayment that helps to protect your roof from ice damming and wind-driven rains.

3) Installation of synthetic underlayment on the remaining area of the roof.

Synthetic underlayment provides a secondary layer of protection from water. In a strong wind-driven rain, there is a small chance water could be driven underneath the shingles. The synthetic underlayment protects against this scenario.

4) Installation of drip edge around the perimeter of the roof.

A drip edge is a metal flashing that helps direct water away from the fascia of your house and into the gutter.

5) Starter strip on the perimeter of the roof is the next step in the installation process.

This strip helps the roof shed water by covering the joints between shingles and is an important step not to skip.

6) Shingle installation.

The shingles are the main component of your new roof. We recommend using a high-quality architectural shingle for both style and longevity.

7) As we work, we check to make sure that your roof has enough ventilation.

As we install the new shingles, we also replace any vent coverings, flanges, and flashings we come across along the way. Coverings are prone to UV damage, so replacing them with new ones is necessary to maintain a fresh look and function. As we work, we check to be sure that your roof has enough ventilation. If we notice there are not enough vents or that any are missing, we install vents as required to make sure the house can breathe as intended.

8) Clean up.

We understand the importance of leaving a clean job site and our crew cleans multiple times throughout the process. This includes sweeping walkways, disposing of garbage, raking materials off the lawn and of course, removing any nails that have fallen.

Roof FAQs

The best time to replace your roof is before any problems start. Once you notice leaks the water is already doing damage to your home.  Being proactive when it comes to your roof will avoid complications and potential damage in your home.

There are a few things to keep an eye out for when deciding if it is time to replace your roof. Shingles will start to have a cupping or curling effect on the bottom half of the shingle. You will notice areas when the shingles no longer have the colour granules on them.

Leaks and missing shingles are other signs that there is a problem. You can also be proactive if you know the age of the roof and have an expert come out and assess your roof.

A square is a unit of measure for a roof representing the amount of material needed to cover 100 square feet. For example, a roof that is 1500 square feet would be referred to as 15 squares.

There are many factors that we look at when pricing out the replacement cost of a roof. The most basic factors are material, pitch, size and complexity. The material and size of the roof are the biggest factors when it comes to the price of your roof so talking over the various material options is highly recommended even if you have one material in mind.

The pitch or slope of the roof is the next biggest factor. As the pitch increases the installation process becomes slower and the extra labour is considered in the price.

Finally, the complexity of the roof plays a role. When we talk about complexity, we are looking for the extras we have to factor in. Some roofs have lots of valleys and areas where additional flashing will be needed while others are just straight and don’t require any extra work.

Many metal roofs are referred to as lifetime roofs as the metal does not deteriorate in the same way as asphalt shingles. Most metal roofs last 40-50 years and are therefore referred to as lifetime roofs.

A key item to note is that there are exposed fastener metal roofs and hidden fastener metal roofs. On an exposed fastener metal roof, it is recommended that the fasteners be checked and replaced as they become worn out.

The simple answer is no.  While many manufacturers offer warranties on their shingles what they cover and for how long often varies.  We chose to partner with GAF because we believe that the warranty offered on GAF products is the most comprehensive in the business.
